Rajesh Prasad appointed Chandigarh Chief Secretary, to succeed Rajeev Verma
Prasad, a 1995-batch IAS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, will succeed Rajeev Verma, who was transferred to Delhi on September 28.
PTC News Desk: H. Rajesh Prasad has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Chandigarh. A 1995-batch IAS officer, he is currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir serving as the Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department.
Prasad, a 1995-batch IAS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, will succeed Rajeev Verma, who was transferred to Delhi on September 28.
Following Verma’s transfer, Mandeep Brar, a 2005-batch Haryana cadre IAS officer, had been given the charge of Chief Secretary temporarily.
Who is Rajesh Prasad?
Rajesh Prasad was born on June 1, 1967, in Karnataka. He holds degrees in B.Com and LLB, along with an MBA in Finance and Public Management from IGNOU and Pondicherry University. His first posting was as District Collector in Arunachal Pradesh.
Deputy Commissioner of South Delhi:
He also served as Deputy Commissioner of South Delhi. In the Delhi administration, he held roles in Urban Development, Trade & Taxation, and later as Principal Secretary in both the Education Department and Urban Development Department.
Transferred to Jammu & Kashmir in 2022:
He worked as the Chief Nodal Officer for the Chandni Chowk Redevelopment Project before being transferred to Jammu & Kashmir in September 2022, where he was appointed as Principal Secretary of the Power Development Department.
Rajeev Verma Appointed Delhi’s New Chief Secretary
On September 28, Rajeev Verma was transferred, and later that evening at 4:30 pm, he held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. After this, the central government appointed him as Delhi’s new Chief Secretary.
Verma, originally from Uttar Pradesh, was made Advisor to the Chandigarh Administration in January last year, and soon after, he became Chandigarh’s Chief Secretary. He is set to retire next year.
