AAP MP Seechewal launches safety drive, urges villagers to safeguard themselves amid security withdrawal plea
PTC News Desk: Rajya Sabha MP Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal on Wednesday launched the 'Apna Pind Sambhalo Muhim' (Take Care of Your Village Campaign), a day after writing to the Punjab DGP asking that the police personnel assigned to his security be withdrawn and deployed at police stations to tackle rising crime.
The campaign was launched from his native village, Seechewal, with a call for people to take responsibility for protecting their own villages.
Following his appeal, Jalandhar SSP Harvinder Singh Virk and Kapurthala SSP Gaurav Toora met Baba Seechewal at his village. They assured him that strict action was being taken against those involved in recent crimes reported in the Lohian and Sultanpur Lodhi police station areas.
Baba Seechewal said he had requested that the six Punjab Police personnel assigned to his security be posted at local police stations instead, as a shortage of staff was making it difficult for the police to maintain law and order effectively.
Launching the campaign with the slogan "Save your village, protect your children," he urged villagers to work together to improve security. Under the initiative, residents will organise community vigil patrols on a rotational basis, while CCTV cameras will be installed at vulnerable and key locations to help prevent crime.
