PTC Web Desk:  A Bathinda court on Monday framed charges against Amritpal Singh Mehron and Ranjit Singh in connection with the murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, popularly known as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi. The court has fixed September 22 for the next hearing in the case.

Charges had earlier been framed against two other accused, Jaspreet Singh and Nimratjit Singh.

Kamal Kaur, 36, a resident of Ludhiana, was found dead on the night of June 11 last year. Her body was recovered from the rear seat of a car parked outside Adesh University near Bhucho Kalan on the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway. Local residents had alerted the police after noticing a foul smell in the area. The police later recovered her badly decomposed body.

According to the police investigation, Kamal Kaur was allegedly strangled to death.

Police alleged conspiracy behind murder

Investigators have alleged that Amritpal Mehron knew Kamal Kaur and had objected to some of her social media content. The police claimed that Amritpal allegedly planned to “teach her a lesson” with the help of his accomplices. According to the investigation, Kamal Kaur was allegedly called to Bathinda on the pretext of taking part in a promotional video event.

The prosecution has accused Amritpal, a resident of Mehron village in Moga district, of being the main conspirator in the case.

Amritpal Mehron brought back from UAE

The police have alleged that Amritpal fled to the United Arab Emirates following the incident. He was declared a proclaimed offender in February this year. He was subsequently deported from the UAE and brought back to India on April 10.

Amritpal has remained in judicial custody since his return to India.

Charges framed against two more accused

With Monday's court proceedings, charges have now been framed against Amritpal Mehron and Ranjit Singh. Their lawyer, Advocate Manpreet Singh Brar, confirmed that the court framed charges against both accused on Monday.

The case will come up for its next hearing on September 22.
