SC dismisses Asaram Bapu's bail plea over Gujarat sexual assault case

Gujarat sexual assault case: The Supreme Court on Monday has dismissed the bail plea of Self-styled Godman Asaram Bapu in connection with the charges of sexual assault against him in Gujarat. The Supreme Court on Monday set a bench headed by NV Ramana.

The bench was informed by the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, that the trial was continuously going on and 210 witnesses were yet to be examined. The Supreme Court bench dismissed the bail plea of Asaram Bapu and said that the lower court will carry on the trial.

The Supreme Court said that the trial needs to be completed first & also asked the trial court in Gujarat to complete the trial in the case.

Asaram Bapu was convicted after the two sisters from Surat lodged a complaint against him and his son Narayan Sai. Both of them are accused of rape and illegal confinement among other charges.
