Security personnel barred Sikh Advocate from entering Supreme Court for Carrying Kirpan
A Sikh advocate was barred by security personnel from entering Supreme Court for carrying kirpan on Wednesday. The Sikh advocate, identified as Amritpal Singh Khalsa, from Maharashtra was barred from entering the top court as his kirpan was bigger than the prescribed allowed size. The security personnel cited him as a threat to the visitors, as their reason.

Amritpal Singh Khalsa accused the security staff of mental harassment and giving him a third-grade treatment. He was made to stand for more than 1 hour outside the courtroom. When he asked the security personnel to provide him with a circular stating the same, they failed to do so. But, at the same time, they were not letting him enter the top court.
Amritpal Singh Khalsa told the media, “ The Constitution has granted Sikhs the right to carry a kirpan. It is a fundamental right as per Article 25, but the security people harassed me.”

The Sikh advocate mentioned the matter before the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi. The advocate wrote a letter about his grievances. The CJI assured him that he will look into the matter. Also, Amritpal Singh Khalsa has filed an RTI to know the mandatory size of the Kirpan that is allowed in the apex court.
