The flight services on Monday suffered delays because of smog in Chennai. The smog was the result of Bhogi festival in which old items are burnt.

According to the media reports, arrival and departure of ten flights were delayed by one hour because of smog. The ten flights were on its way to various destinations like Bangalore and Pune.

Bhogi is a festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu, just a day before Pongal. It is a festival in which old items like mats are burnt as a symbolic gesture of doing away with the old ones and welcoming new ones.

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board is continuously carrying out various awareness rallies and campaigns for a smoke-free Bhogi. It is continuously issuing a warning against burning plastic materials and tyers.
