Internet service suspended in Jamshedpur following stone-pelting incident

The dispute arose after a religious flag was allegedly desecrated. The area has been put under Section 144, while a RAF company has been deployed to bring the situation under control.

Jamshedpur, April 10: Internet services have been suspended in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand following a clash between two groups over the alleged desecration of a religious flag on Sunday. 

Reports indicate that the dispute arose after a religious flag was allegedly desecrated. The area has been put under Section 144, while a Rapid Action Force (RAF) company has been deployed to bring the situation under control. "Forces are conducting early morning flag march. Section 144 is enforced in the area. Internet services are barred till the next order," said Executive Magistrate, Jyoti Kumari.

Deputy Commissioner, East Singhbhum Vijaya Jadhav stated that communication with local committee members and other stakeholders is being established to restore normalcy in the area. She also urged the public to not believe any rumours and report any provocative messages to the police.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Jamshedpur Prabhat Kumar informed that those who had gathered have been dispersed and investigations into the matter are currently underway. He also added that some people have been detained in connection with the incident. "The situation is under control. Those who had gathered were sent home. The force has been deployed in the entire area and a company of RAF is deployed," SSP, Jamshedpur Prabhat Kumar said. 

Internet services have been suspended in Jamshedpur till the next order. It is expected that the situation will be brought back to normal soon.
