Srinagar, June 12: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken action in a terror-funding case by attaching properties belonging to businessman Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali in Kupwara district, Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials confirmed that the NIA team attached the immovable properties registered under Watali's name in the villages of Baghatpora and Kachwari, located in the Handwara area of the north Kashmir district.

The attached properties primarily consist of land owned by Watali, who is an accused in the terror funding case. The decision to attach these properties was made based on an order issued by the Special NIA court in New Delhi in May.

Zahoor Ahmad Shah Watali was arrested by the NIA in 2017 and was charged under various sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Last year in May, a trial court framed charges against Watali and other individuals involved in a case concerning alleged terrorism and secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir in 2017.

It is worth noting that Watali had been transferred from jail to house arrest in February of the previous year due to medical reasons. The recent action taken by the NIA in attaching his properties serves as another significant development in the ongoing investigation into the terror-funding case.
