‘We’re the most famous couple on Instagram’: Meloni jokes with PM Modi over viral ‘Melody’ moment at G7 Summit
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and PM Narendra Modi shared a light-hearted moment at the G7 Summit, joking about their viral ‘Melody’ video that became a social media sensation
PTC Web Desk: A light-hearted exchange between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni grabbed attention on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, as the two leaders joked about their viral “Melody” moment that had earlier become a sensation on social media.
During their interaction, Meloni reportedly teased PM Modi by saying that they had become “the most famous couple on Instagram,” referring to the widespread online attention their last meeting had received.
Viral ‘Melody’ connection
The joke was linked to a memorable moment from PM Modi’s visit to Italy during his five-nation tour in May. During the trip, Modi gifted Meloni a packet of Melody chocolates from India.
A video shared by the two leaders on social media showed Meloni happily displaying the chocolates and thanking the Indian Prime Minister. The clip quickly went viral and attracted millions of views and likes online.
Internet users later coined the term “Melodi”, a play on the words Meloni and Modi, as well as the popular Melody candy, to describe the friendly bond between the two leaders.

Friendship beyond social media
While the viral videos and jokes have generated public interest, officials say the relationship between the two leaders reflects the growing partnership between India and Italy.
The two countries have been expanding cooperation under the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029. The agreement focuses on strengthening collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, defence, clean energy, technology, innovation and cultural exchanges.
