UP DGP Mukul Goel removed for 'disobedience, lack of interest in departmental work'

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), May 11: The Uttar Pradesh government removed Director general of police (DGP) Mukul Goel on Wednesday, citing negligence, disobedience and lack of interest in departmental work.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself took the decision in the wake of rising crimes in the state and DGP Goel's negligence in government work. The 1987 batch IPS officer DGP Mukul Goel has now been transferred to the post of DG Civil Security.

Last month, Goel was conspicuously absent from a key meeting convened by the Chief Minister to discuss the state's law and order situation. Since then, rumours have circulated that CM Adityanath is dissatisfied with Goel.

According to media reports, Goel was not attending team meetings and was also absent from critical departmental presentations such as the home department.

However, sources claim that Goel was not invited to any of these crucial meetings. They claimed that the actual issue was that he didn't get along with the CM and that their personal relationships were strained.

Prashant Kumar, ADG, Law and Order, will now step in for Goel until the government names a new DGP.

According to media reports, 1988 batch IPS officer RK Vishwakarma could be the front runner in the race for the new DGP.
