Haldirams temporarily shuts London outlet days after grand opening; know why

PTC News Desk: Weeks after viral opening of drew massive crowd, Indian snack and restaurant giant Haldiram's temporarily shut its much-talked about London outlet.
The brand’s first full-service restaurant in the United Kingdom, located in Leicester Square, had opened in June 2026 as part of its global expansion into dine-in markets.
The launch quickly drew significant traction with videos showing large crowds gathered particularly from Indian diaspora to try its popular offerings such as chaat, sweets and traditional snacks.
The notice reads, "Notice of Temporary Closure. Please note that we are temporarily closed due to scheduled UKPN electrical and gas upgrade works. We will announce our reopening date as soon as possible and look forward to welcoming you back when we resume normal operations. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during these essential maintenance works. Keep an eye out on our socials for more updates."
The closure comes just weeks after Haldiram's opened its first restaurant in the UK in June. Located at 19-20 Irving Street in London's Leicester Square, the 3,000-square-foot restaurant has seating for 120 guests, along with 20 outdoor seats.
Unlike Haldiram's traditional quick-service outlets, the London restaurant was designed as a premium casual dining destination. Its menu includes popular Indian dishes such as chole bhature, pav bhaji, raj kachori, a wide variety of chaat, and special fusion desserts created exclusively for the UK outlet.
The restaurant also features a retail section where customers can buy Haldiram's packaged sweets and snacks to take home.
