Drone attack hits Ufa

The incident took place amid a fresh wave of Ukrainian drone attacks targeting locations deep inside Russian territory. According to reports, drones struck an oil refinery and a residential building in Ufa. Bashkortostan regional head Radiy Khabirov said Russian air defence units intercepted four of six drones detected over the region.

One of the drones hit a section of an oil refinery that was undergoing maintenance, triggering a fire. Authorities said the facility suffered limited damage.

Another drone crashed into a residential building in northern Ufa. The impact shattered windows on upper floors and damaged several vehicles parked nearby.

Indian student being treated in hospital

The injury to the Indian student has brought renewed attention to the safety of Indian nationals living and studying in areas affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The embassy has maintained contact with the student and local authorities following the attack. The student remains under medical care.

Bashkortostan is located more than 1,000 km from Ukraine's border and is an important centre for Russia's oil-refining industry. The region has faced drone attacks in the past as the Russia-Ukraine war has continued.

India monitoring safety of nationals

The latest incident comes as New Delhi continues to remain in touch with both Moscow and Kyiv regarding the safety of Indian citizens caught up in the conflict. India has consistently called for restraint and a return to dialogue to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also raised concerns over attacks affecting commercial shipping and Indian seafarers in the Black Sea during a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on July 30.

India had strongly condemned attacks on commercial shipping and stressed that such incidents were unacceptable.
