PTC Web Desk:  A high court in Pakistan on Tuesday directed the police law enforcement authorities to stop harassing an Indian Sikh woman, Sarabjeet Kaur, who embraced Islam and married a Pakistani man she had known through social media for nearly a decade.

Sarabjeet Kaur (48) was part of a group of around 2,000 Sikh pilgrims who travelled to Pakistan via the Wagah border earlier this month to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. When the jatha returned to India on November 13, she was reported missing.

Later, the Lahore police confirmed that she had married Nasir Hussain, a resident of Sheikhupura district located about 50 km from the city. According to officials, the marriage took place on November 4, just a day after she arrived in Pakistan. While the other pilgrims continued their visit to Nankana Sahib, she left for Sheikhupura with Hussain.

On Tuesday, the couple approached the Lahore High Court (LHC), accusing the police of illegally raiding their home in Farooqabad, Sheikhupura, and pressuring them to annul their marriage. Justice Farooq Haider instructed the authorities to refrain from harassing the couple.

In the petition, Sarabjeet Kaur alleged that a police officer had been intimidating them and attempting to force a dissolution of their marriage. She stated that her husband is a Pakistani citizen and that she has already requested the Indian mission to extend her visa and facilitate her application for Pakistani nationality.

A video circulating online shows Sarabjeet Kaur, who adopted the Muslim name Noor before her nikah, saying she had known Hussain for nine years through Facebook. She described herself as a divorcee who willingly travelled to Pakistan to marry him.

She hails from Amanipur village in Kapurthala district of Punjab, where the police are investigating her disappearance. Earlier reports suggested her former husband had been living abroad for several years. She is also the mother of two sons.
