Iran attacks US bases in Kuwait, Bahrain in retaliation for strikes on Qesham Island
PTC News Desk: Iran launched missiles and drones at US military bases in Kuwait and Bahrain on Wednesday, saying the attacks were in retaliation for an earlier US strike on Iran's Qeshm Island. Iran's Armed Forces claimed they targeted the US Fifth Fleet and a US air base in the region, describing the operation as a response to US attacks on an Iranian telecommunications facility and an oil tanker. They said the strikes were part of the "more severe" retaliation they had previously warned about.
Meanwhile, Kuwait's military said its air defence systems successfully intercepted incoming missiles and drones. Residents across the country reported hearing loud explosions as tensions in the Gulf continued to rise.
In a statement, Kuwait's General Staff said the explosion sounds were caused by interception operations carried out by the country's air defence systems against hostile targets. The military later issued another warning, advising people not to approach or touch any debris, shrapnel, or unidentified objects that may have fallen during the interceptions, as they could be dangerous and pose a threat to public safety.
According to Iran's state broadcaster IRIB, the Iranian Armed Forces said they had launched strikes against the US Fifth Fleet and a US air base in the region in retaliation for what they described as a US attack on an Iranian telecommunications antenna and an oil tanker.
In a statement, the military said, "Following the US attack on a telecommunications antenna and an Iranian oil tanker, we targeted the United States Fifth Fleet and a US air base in the region." It added that Iran had already warned that any further aggression would trigger a stronger response.
"We had previously warned that in the event of aggression, the response would be different and more severe, and tonight we acted on our word," the statement said.
