Dr Bimaljit Singh Sandhu from Punjab gets key administrative role in Virginia

Dr Sandhu, a gastroenterologist, migrated to the US in 2004 to join Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center

Richmond (US), July 19: Dr Bimaljit Singh Sandhu, an accomplished gastroenterologist of Indian origin, has been appointed to a significant administrative role in the health sector by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin.

Dr Sandhu was sworn in on Tuesday as a Board member of the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Authority. In this position, he will play a crucial role in shaping the state's health education system.

As a member of the board of directors, Dr Sandhu will oversee the operations of the entire health system, including medical, nursing, and pharmacy schools.

"It's a significant responsibility. We provide guidance in terms of fundraising and offer strategic direction to different medical schools and hospitals to ensure that we are at the forefront, providing the best care to the people of Virginia," stated Dr Sandhu following the swearing-in ceremony held in Richmond.

Originally from Faridkot, Punjab, Dr Sandhu migrated to the United States in 2004 to join the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center as a gastroenterologist.

His appointment to this key administrative position reflects his expertise and contributions to the field of healthcare. Dr. Sandhu's role will contribute to the advancement of healthcare education and delivery in Virginia, benefitting the local community and beyond.
