AP Dhillon house attack accused Abhijeet Kingra’s deportation hearing halted in Canada; know reason
PTC Web Desk: Canadian authorities temporarily stopped the deportation hearing of alleged Lawrence Bishnoi gang aide Abhijeet Kingra after officials failed to confirm his location during a virtual proceeding.
According to reports, a member of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board paused the hearing, stating that the process could not continue without knowing where Kingra was. The issue arose after he was shifted from one jail to another without informing the authorities concerned, including the immigration board and the Canada Border Services Agency.
Kingra is currently in custody and officials later confirmed his detention. However, the delay in the hearing was attributed to poor coordination between departments.
He was earlier convicted for his role in a 2024 attack at the residence of Punjabi singer AP Dhillon in Colwood, British Columbia. Acting on instructions from the gang, Kingra allegedly opened fire at the house and set two vehicles on fire. He also recorded the entire incident on a body camera and uploaded the footage, which helped the gang claim responsibility.
The attack was reportedly linked to a larger dispute involving Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
Kingra had entered Canada on a student visa, which later expired. After admitting to his involvement in the crime, he was sentenced to six years in prison in 2025. He is now facing deportation as a member of a criminal organisation.
Canadian authorities have classified the gang as an extremist group, citing a rise in extortion and violent activities targeting Indo-Canadian communities.
