PTC Web Desk:  A tragic house fire in South London has claimed the lives of two Indian students, while a third occupant remains hospitalised with injuries. The blaze broke out on February 23 at a rented property in Croydon, where three Indian nationals were staying.

Emergency services rushed to the scene and shifted all three to Croydon University Hospital. One of the victims, 28-year-old Ganti Abhishek from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, died on the night of the incident. Authorities said he succumbed to smoke inhalation at the scene before medical help could save him.

Another resident, 26-year-old Kamineni Sai Srikar from Nizamabad in Telangana, was admitted in critical condition. Despite intensive medical care, he was declared brain dead days later and subsequently passed away. His grieving family has appealed to authorities to facilitate the early repatriation of his mortal remains to India.

The third student, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, managed to escape the burning house but suffered injuries. He is currently undergoing treatment and is said to be recovering.

Srikar had earlier completed his engineering education in Hyderabad and had travelled to the United Kingdom to pursue a Master’s degree in science. Friends and acquaintances described both young men as focused and determined students working towards building their careers abroad.

Local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire. Further details are awaited as officials examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
