Aam Aadmi Party's Rupinder Kaur Ruby won the last assembly elections and is the current MLA of Bathinda rural. She won the 2017 elections by defeating Shiromani Akali Dal's Amit Rattan with a margin of 10,778 votes. Amit Rattan Kotfatta and Congress' Harvinder Singh Laddi were MLA candidates for the Bathinda Rural constituency in the 2017 Punjab assembly elections. Rupinder Kaur Ruby (AAP) grabbed 51,572 votes, while Amit Rattan Kotfatta (SAD) got 40,794 votes. Harvinder Singh Laddi (Congress) received 28,939 votes.
