BRICS countries to launch early warning system for large-scale pandemics
Beijing (China), May 11: BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) health ministers agreed to launch an early warning system for large-scale pandemics at their 12th meeting. More than 70 people attended the meeting, which was virtually hosted by China and included health ministers from BRICS countries and the World Health Organization's deputy director-general. According to Xinhua News Agency, representatives had in-depth discussions on a variety of topics during the meeting, including Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control, establishing new health systems and digital health. The head of China's National Health Commission, Ma Xiaowei, highlighted China's counter-epidemic policies, including the dynamic zero-Covid approach, as well as the country's efforts to strike a balance between epidemic prevention and economic development. Moreover, China is scheduled to host the BRICS summit in Xiamen in June this year.
