Adar Poonawalla acquires 50% stake in Karan Johar's Dharma Productions

PTC News Desk: Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, has made headlines with a significant investment in Karan Johar's renowned Dharma Productions and its subsidiary, Dharmatic Entertainment. Through his company, Serene Productions, Poonawalla will acquire a 50% stake in Dharma Productions, a deal valued at ₹1,000 crore, while Karan Johar will retain the other half.

Karan Johar, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry and the driving force behind Dharma Productions for years, will continue to serve as the Executive Chairman of the company. Apoorva Mehta will also maintain his position as Chief Executive Officer, ensuring a seamless transition and continuity in the leadership team.


This partnership comes at a time when India’s entertainment industry is experiencing exponential growth, driven by increased digital access and a diverse audience eager for high-quality content across various platforms. The union of Dharma Productions' rich storytelling legacy with Poonawalla's strategic vision and resources is expected to propel the business forward, as stated in a company press release.
