The Union government on Wednesday declared Chandigarh to be a coronavirus hotspot, a top official stated. Chandigarh has been named in the list of 170 hotspots in the country, UT Adviser Manoj Parida said on Twitter. publive-image “Union Government has declared Chandigarh as a HOTSPOT district, as per laid down criteria of Health Ministry,” he said in a tweet. The development comes a day after Chandigarh Administration extended curfew till May 3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended the lockdown.

Chandigarh has so far reported 21 coronavirus cases but no deaths. The Administrator was briefed about the decisions of the Government of India declaring Chandigarh as a Hotspot district, which requires strict restrictions in the city.
