PTC News Desk: The annual ‘In Memoriam’ segment at the Academy Awards paid tribute to several notable personalities from the global film industry during the 2026 ceremony. The segment traditionally honours artists and professionals who passed away over the past year, recognising their lasting contributions to cinema.

Among those remembered during the televised tribute were prominent figures such as Catherine O’Hara, Diane Keaton, Rob Reiner, Robert Redford, Michele Singer Reiner, actor Val Kilmer and fashion designer Giorgio Armani, among others.

However, many viewers noticed that legendary Indian actor Dharmendra, who passed away in November 2025, was not included in the televised montage. The omission quickly sparked reactions from fans on social media, with many expressing disappointments over the absence of one of Indian cinema’s most iconic stars.

Despite not appearing in the broadcast segment, Dharmendra was included in the Academy’s extended ‘In Memoriam’ list published on the official Oscars website. The online tribute also recognised other prominent figures from Indian cinema, including Manoj Kumar, B. Saroja Devi and Kota Srinivasa Rao.

Dharmendra was widely regarded as one of the most celebrated stars in the history of Indian cinema. Over a career spanning several decades, he became known for his memorable performances in classic films such as Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Seeta Aur Geeta and Yaadon Ki Baaraat. His absence from the televised tribute prompted renewed discussions about global representation in the Academy’s memorial segment, even as the online listing ensured that his legacy was formally acknowledged by the organisation.
