West Bengal elections: EC orders repoll in 15 booths after Phase 2 complaints

West Bengal elections:  The Election Commission has directed fresh polling in 15 booths in West Bengal following complaints during the second phase of the Assembly elections held on April 29. The repoll will take place on May 2, with voting scheduled between 7 am and 6 pm.

According to an official communication sent to the state’s Chief Electoral Officer, the decision was taken after reviewing reports submitted by the local election authorities. The commission cited inputs from the state poll machinery as the basis for ordering the re-election in the identified polling stations.

Out of the 15 booths, 11 are located in the Magarhat Paschim Assembly constituency, while the remaining four fall under the Diamond Harbour constituency. Authorities are also examining complaints from the Falta constituency, where a significant number of grievances have been reported. A detailed report on the matter is still awaited.

This marks the first instance of repolling in the ongoing round of Assembly elections being conducted across multiple states, including West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. Notably, no such action was required after the first phase of polling in West Bengal, which took place on April 23.

Election officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a free and fair voting process, stating that necessary measures will be in place during the repoll to maintain order and transparency.
