Netflix makes significant stride, discloses viewership data for first time | Check out most-watched series
PTC Web Desk: Netflix has made a significant stride by publicly disclosing viewership data for the first time, with the most-watched global series being "The Night Agent", accumulating a staggering 812 million hours of viewing.
Criticism has long surrounded Netflix for its secrecy regarding content performance on its platform, leaving uncertainties about audience engagement. This year, especially amid Hollywood's production slowdown, discussions intensified about the necessity for Netflix to share data, aiming to provide crucial insights into show popularity and audience engagement.
During a media conference call, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos acknowledged producers' skepticism about sharing visibility data, emphasising its pivotal role for the company and the industry at large.
Sarandos mentioned, "We believe this report will offer producers and the industry deeper insights into content performance and audience preferences."
Netflix relies on Nielsen, a company tracking data for the creative industry, to compile annual statistics for broadcasting and cable television. The "Watched Top 10" report, issued semi-annually and based on 18,000 titles, ranks content. Netflix plans to continue releasing these reports biannually.

In addition to the previously mentioned shows that collectively amassed nearly 100 billion hours of viewing, titles like "Jeopardy," "Gilmore Girls," "Seinfeld," "Friends," and "The Office" are among those listed.
Jennifer Lopez's movie "The Mother" claimed the top spot as the most-watched film, accumulating over 249 million hours of viewership. Netflix highlights that about three-quarters of its globally consumed content is non-English, which aids in understanding audience preferences besides financial and creative aspects.
With a global subscriber base of around 250 million, Netflix is the largest streaming service globally.

Starting in 2021, Netflix began issuing separate reports to enhance transparency. Advertisers are seeking insights into content popularity and more. The list features various Indian shows and films, including titles like "Rana Naidu Series," "Chhor Nikal Ke Bhaga," "Mission Majnu," "Misses Chatterjee," "Varasada Navve," and "RRR Film," encompassing several Indian shows and movies among others.
