Internet curbs to continue in Kashmir Valley till March 4
PTC Web Desk: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has confirmed the temporary suspension and restriction of telecom services across the Kashmir Valley, citing concerns over public order and security.
According to government order, prepaid mobile data services (2G/3G/4G) have been reduced to 2G speeds not exceeding 128 kbps, while prepaid mobile services, including data, voice and SMS (pre- and post-paid JK01), have been temporarily shut down from 9 am on March 1 to 8 pm on March 4.
It comes amid apprehensions that continuation of full telecom services could disturb public order in light of reports regarding the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran.
The Home Department said the decision was necessary in the interest of maintaining sovereignty, integrity and public order in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The order has been formally confirmed by the Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department.
Authorities have indicated that the restrictions are temporary and subject to review based on the prevailing security situation.
