IAS Sanjay Popli sent to judicial Remand, seeks permission to perform son’s last rites
Senior IAS Sanjay Popli has been sent to judicial custody by the court. Sanjay Popli has been sent directly from GMCH-32 to Patiala Jail. At the same time, according to sources, Sanjay Popli has filed a petition in the court through his lawyer to come to the rites of his son Kartik Popli. However, no decision has been taken on this petition yet.
Sanjay Popli was arrested from Chandigarh by the Vigilance Mohali team for demanding commission from the contractor. Both Popli and his secretary Sandeep Vats were to be produced in Mohali court on Saturday, but when Sanjay Popli was taken to his Chandigarh home for recovery at 12.30 pm on Saturday, his only son Kartik Popli shot himself dead with a licensed pistol.
After this, Popli's health deteriorated, he was admitted to Phase-6 Civil Hospital, where it is alleged that he did not cooperate with the doctors for medical treatment. Due to this, he was referred to GMCH-32 hospital late in the night, while Sandeep Vats, the secretary of Popli, was produced before the Mohali court at 7 pm on Saturday, which has been sent to judicial custody by the court.
Meanwhile, the co-accused, Sandeep Wats, was produced before the court which remanded him in judicial custody.
