17-year-old shot dead in Chandigarh's Sector 22, auto driver injured
PTC News Desk: A shocking incident has come to light from Chandigarh's Sector 22, where a 17-year-old youth was shot dead. An auto-rickshaw driver Sikandar Paswan was also injured in the shooting and is undergoing treatment at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH-16). Naetik’s body has been kept in the hospital mortuary.
According to reports, the accused arrived on a motorcycle, chased the auto-rickshaw carrying Naetik and fired three shots. One bullet hit the driver in the shoulder, while another struck Naetik in the chest. Naetik was taken to hospital for treatment but died during treatment.
Police suspect that an old dispute led to the shooting. The conflict reportedly stemmed from a fight in Sector 34 and a video of the incident being shared on social media.
According to police, Naetik was a Class 11 student at SD School in Sector 32. He had previously studied at St Joseph’s School, where he reportedly developed a dispute with the accused. The two allegedly exchanged insults and posted videos targeting each other on social media. As the conflict escalated, Naetik’s family changed his school.
SHO Sudesh Kumar says, "Two boys and the auto-rickshaw driver were struck by gunfire. The auto-rickshaw driver has been admitted to the hospital. One person has lost his life. It appears there was a long-standing grudge between these boys, dating back to their school days. We have learned that a dispute broke out among a group of friends in Sector 44 today...The boy who died was a minor and the perpetrator is also of a similar age...The CFSL team has arrived, so it would be premature to comment further; the investigation is still in its initial stages"
Fight in Sector 34, video posted on Instagram
According to police sources, Naetik and a friend confronted the accused group in Sector 34 on Thursday evening. They allegedly assaulted Saurav and uploaded a video of the incident to Instagram.
After the video went viral, Saurav reportedly called his friends, and they began chasing Naetik. Police said the shooting took place in Sector 22 around an hour later.
Police detained the accused for questioning and subsequently arrested him. A .32-bore pistol was also recovered from him.
The investigation is ongoing as police examine further details and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
