Air India Delhi-Paris flight cancelled after issues found in pre-flight checks; two international flights grounded in a day

PTC Web Desk: Air India on Tuesday cancelled two international flights after precautionary checks revealed issues that required attention. The affected flights include AI 143 from Delhi to Paris and AI 159 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, according to airline officials.

A spokesperson for Air India said flight AI 143 from Delhi to Paris was grounded after a pre-flight safety check detected a technical problem. “The aircraft issue is currently being resolved. However, due to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport’s night flying restrictions, the flight had to be cancelled,” the spokesperson explained.

Air India assured that passengers of the cancelled Paris flight are being provided hotel accommodation, and they could either reschedule their trip for free or get a full refund. The return flight AI 142 from Paris to Delhi was also cancelled as a result.

This marks the second cancellation of the day. Earlier, Air India cancelled flight AI 159 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick. An official from Ahmedabad airport stated the flight could not operate due to airspace restrictions and longer aircraft turnaround times, not because of any technical fault.

“The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner scheduled for this route was unavailable. The delays were caused by airspace-related delays and precautionary inspections,” an Air India spokesperson clarified.

Technical snag on San Francisco-Mumbai flight

In another incident, passengers on an Air India flight from San Francisco to Mumbai had to deplane during a scheduled stopover at the Kolkata airport. The flight was halted due to an issue in one of the aircraft’s engines, according to sources.

More flight issues reported across airlines

This wave of disruptions follows the recent Ahmedabad plane crash, which has led airlines to conduct more frequent precautionary checks. On Monday, three international flights operated by Air India, British Airways, and Lufthansa faced mid-air issues and had to return to their origin airports:

Air India AI 315 (Hong Kong to Delhi) returned shortly after takeoff due to a technical issue.

British Airways (London to Chennai) returned to Heathrow due to a mechanical problem.

Lufthansa (Frankfurt to Hyderabad) turned back after a bomb threat prevented landing clearance.
