Hijacking scare: Air India Frankfurt-Delhi flight diverted to Jaipur after security alert, passengers safe

PTC Web Desk: An Air India flight flying from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday morning after a security alert. The plane landed safely at Jaipur International Airport.

The flight, AI 2030, was a Boeing 787-9. After landing, it was taken to an isolation bay, a separate area of the airport used for security checks.

Early reports said the alert was a bomb threat. However, an airport official later said it was a hijacking rumour and not a bomb threat. The official asked not to be named and said it was too early to say anything officially because an investigation was still on.

Sources said the alert came when the plane was nearing Indian airspace. Air Traffic Control and security agencies were informed and the flight was sent to Jaipur.

Sources said the pilot entered squawk code 7500 while the plane was in the Mumbai Flight Information Region. This code is used to signal unlawful interference, such as a hijacking.

Teams from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), local police and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) checked the aircraft and the passengers’ luggage.

All passengers and crew members were taken off the plane safely and moved to a holding area inside the airport terminal.

Malviya Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police Shiv Dayal said the airport authorities had informed the police about the emergency landing, citing a bomb threat. He said more details were awaited.

The number of passengers on board was not known at the time of writing. Neither Air India nor the airport authorities had issued an official statement yet. It is also not clear where the alert came from or what exactly it was.

This story is developing and will be updated once more details are available.
