CAA becomes reality: Centre notifies implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act

PTC News Desk: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday announced the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 regulations, according to sources.

The Narendra Modi government's CAA rules seek to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014.

After Parliament's passage of the CAA in December 2019 and following Presidential assent, significant protests erupted across the country.

The CAA, which has been delayed for over four years, requires the drafting of associated rules.

"The regulations are prepared, and an online portal is already set up for the entire process, which will be conducted digitally. Applicants will need to disclose the year of their entry into India without any travel documents. No additional documentation will be required from the applicants," an official said.
