Cracks force 15 families to vacate Shimla building, 4-lane project under scrutiny
PTC Web Desk: At least 15 families were evacuated from a multi-storey residential building in Shimla’s Chalaunthi area after visible cracks emerged in the structure, prompting safety concerns late Friday night, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Residents said the cracks had been appearing over the past few days but worsened significantly on Friday, making the building unsafe for occupation. Locals have alleged that nearby four-lane highway construction work could be a contributing factor to the damage.
According to residents, the issue was brought to the notice of officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) earlier, but no immediate action was taken.
Following the evacuation, officials from the district administration inspected the site to assess the extent of structural damage and determine further action. Authorities said the situation is being monitored and appropriate measures will be taken after a detailed evaluation.
