Cyclone Michaung: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued warnings about Cyclone Michaung as a well-defined low-pressure area forms over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and South Andaman Sea. Predicted to intensify, it might become a cyclonic storm within 48 hours.

Initially a low-pressure area in the Andaman Sea and Strait of Malacca, the system is now a well-defined low-pressure area. Forecasts anticipate its west-northwest movement, potentially developing into a depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 30. The expectation is for it to gain strength, likely evolving into Cyclone Michaung over the Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal within 48 hours.

The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall in the Nicobar Islands, expecting isolated instances of heavy to very heavy rainfall from November 29 to December 1. Similarly, the Andaman Islands are likely to experience light to moderate rainfall, with isolated instances of very heavy rainfall on November 30.

Anticipated weather conditions include strong winds in various regions. The South Andaman Sea might experience winds at speeds of 25-35 kmph gusting to 45 kmph on November 29. In the southeast Bay of Bengal, squally weather with wind speeds ranging from 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is predicted on November 30, increasing further in subsequent days.

Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into these areas during specified dates due to anticipated adverse weather conditions. Meanwhile, the Odisha government has alerted seven coastal districts due to the impending cyclonic storm.

The IMD's forecasts extend beyond the immediate cyclonic threat, detailing expected rainfall and thunderstorm activity in various regions of India over the next few days. From Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad to Maharashtra and southern states, the predictions cover a wide geographical area and varying weather patterns.
