'Deeply shocked': PM Modi expresses solidarity over rocket strikes launched by Hamas
PM Modi on Hamas attack on Isreal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed India's solidarity with Israel over the Hamas rocket attacks, saying that India's thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families.
This comes after Hamas carried out a surprise strike on Israel on Saturday morning, launching a barrage of rockets into southern and central Israel.
"Deeply shocked by the news of terrorist attacks in Israel. Our thoughts and prayers are with the innocent victims and their families. We stand in solidarity with Israel at this difficult hour," PM Modi said.
Israel's Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, stated that the "situation is not normal," but that "Israel will prevail."
"Thank you@PMOIndia. India's moral support is much appreciated. Israel will prevail," Israel's envoy stated.
According to the most recent reports, at least 40 people were killed in the incident, and over 500 were wounded, with over 70 critically injured, according to The Times of Israel.
Following the attacks, the Indian Embassy in Israel issued an alert to its people on Saturday, urging them to remain attentive and follow safety protocols.
The advisory read: "In view of the current situation in Israel, all Indian nationals in Israel are requested to remain vigilant and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities. Please exercise caution, avoid unnecessary movement and stay close to safety shelters. Israel's Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon, expressed gratitude for the Indian people's solidarity, saying, "We stand firm in the face of terrorism."
According to The Times of Israel, Hamas has also claimed to have kidnapped five IDF soldiers; however, the IDF has yet to comment on the report.
Following infiltration by Hamas fighters and missile attacks from Gaza, Israel has already declared war on the country.
According to the Times of Israel, the Israel Defense Forces started Operation 'Iron Swords' in response to Hamas' surprise attack on Israel. The IDF plans to hit Hamas targets in Gaza.
According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli military is fighting Hamas militants in many sites in Southern Israel near the Gaza Strip border, including the towns of Kfar Aza, Sderot, Sufa, Nahal Oz, Magen, Be'eri, and the Re'im military base.
