Diljit Dosanjh Delhi concert: Massive security measures in place; over 2,000 cops deployed, no car-zone planned, traffic diverted
PTC News Desk: Around 2,000 private security guards are expected to be deployed for Diljit Dosanjh’s concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on October 30. Organisers have been asked to increase security, arrange extra parking and coordinate with cab services to manage the crowd and prevent traffic jams near the venue.
The arrangements follow Delhi Police’s initial decision to withhold permission for the concert due to security concerns and the additional demands of maintaining law and order during the festive season. However, after discussions with the organisers and a revised security plan, permission was granted, allowing the show to go ahead as scheduled. The concert will mark the start of Diljit’s Aura India Tour in Delhi.
More traffic restrictions near venue
According to reports, Delhi Police has recommended deploying between 1,500 and 2,000 private security guards, compared with the 400 initially proposed by the organisers. The additional guards will help manage the expected crowd at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, which has a capacity of around 55,000 people.
Security personnel will manage queues, guide fans to the correct entry gates, assist visitors at help kiosks and ensure smooth movement around the stadium. Organisers have also been asked to arrange additional parking facilities and work with cab services and navigation platforms to reduce traffic congestion and manage pick-up and drop-off points.
Police are planning to restrict vehicle movement within a 500 to 700-metre area around the stadium. The proposed zone will be reserved mainly for pedestrians, with entry allowed only to vehicles carrying the artist and those with special event permission.
Meanwhile, organisers are considering extending the stage ramp so that Diljit can move closer to the audience and interact with fans. However, the proposal is still awaiting final security clearance.
Why Delhi Police withheld permission ?
The concert faced uncertainty after the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) informed ticketing platform BookMyShow that permission for the October 30 event could not initially be granted.
According to news agency ANI, police cited specific threat-related information and the additional security responsibilities arising from the ongoing festive season.
The decision led to reports that the concert might be cancelled. BookMyShow Live later clarified that the event had not been called off.
The organiser said reports suggesting the concert was cancelled were incorrect. It explained that permission had been temporarily withheld, rather than cancelled, and that the two situations should not be confused.
The organisers subsequently held a meeting with Delhi Police, which BookMyShow described as cordial and constructive. They also submitted a revised security plan to address the concerns raised by the authorities. Following these discussions, the police reviewed the decision and granted permission for the concert to take place as scheduled on October 30.
