Diwali is almost here and banks will be shut on October 31 or November 1 across states. For Diwali, some states have announced bank holidays on November 1st, while others have declared a holiday on October 31st.

Diwali 2024: Are banks closed on Oct 31 or Nov 1? Check state-wise bank holiday list

Diwali 2024: Diwali is almost here and banks will be shut on October 31 or November 1 across states. For Diwali, some states have announced bank holidays on November 1st, while others have declared a holiday on October 31st. 

It's important to find out if your city's banks are closed on October 31 or November 1 before scheduling your bank visits. 


When is Diwali 2024?

This year, there is some confusion about the date of Diwali. For those unfamiliar, Diwali is celebrated on Amavasya Tithi, which falls on two days this year. 

The Amavasya Tithi for Diwali 2024 starts on October 31 at 3:52 pm and ends on November 1 at 6:16 pm. 

Diwali bank holiday on October 31 (Thursday)

Banks will remain closed in Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Banks are open in Tripura, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, and Meghalaya.

Diwali bank holiday on November 1st (Friday)

Banks in Punjab, Tripura, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Manipur will be closed for Deepavali, Kut Festival, and Kannada Rajyotsava.

Diwali Bank Holiday on November 2 (Saturday)

Banks will be closed in Gujrat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Diwali (Bali Pratipada)/Balipadyami/Laxmi Puja (Deepawali)/Govardhan Pooja/Vikram Samvat New Year Day.

Long holiday for these states for four days

Banks will be shut for four consecutive days on October 31, November 1, and November 2, followed by Sunday, November 3. Banks in Karnataka and Maharashtra will be closed for four consecutive days.
