Dussehra 2023: Chandigarh Police issue traffic, parking advisory for Dussehra festival, check list

Dussehra 2023: Dussehra holds immense significance in the Hindu calendar, marked by vibrant celebrations throughout India. This year, Navratri spans from October 15 to 23, culminating in Dussehra on October 24. It commemorates the triumph of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.

In Hindu mythology, Dussehra also signifies Lord Ram's victory over the demon King Ravana. The festival underscores the age-old message of the prevalence of good over evil, with the ritualistic burning of the effigy of Ravan encouraging us to kindle the light of positivity within ourselves and embark on a fresh journey.

In an advisory for Dussehra festival, the Chandigarh traffic police have notified parking spaces in various city markets.

Check List 

Dussehra Festival at Parade Ground Sector 17, Chandigarh

Traffic Advisory: In order to de-congest this area at the time of dispersal of this function, traffic shall be diverted away from ISBT Sector 17 Chowk on Udyog Path by diverting traffic coming from 17/18 Light Point, Aroma Light Point, Sector 18/19/20/21 chowk and Cricket Stadium Chowk for one hour i.e. from 5.30 PM to 6.30 PM. 

Parking Advisory: The general public is hereby requested to park their vehicles in the following authorized parking lots:- 

a. Parking area of sector 22-A Market 

b. Parking area of Sector 22-B Market 

c. Parking of Football Ground, Sector 17 

d. Rear side and front side of Neelam Cinema Sector 17 

e. Parking area adjoining Local Bus Stand, Sector 17

Dussehra Festival at Ground opposite Gurudwara Sector 34, Chandigarh

Traffic Advisory: In order to de-congest this area at the time of dispersal of this function, the road from Sector 34/35 Light Point towards Furniture Market turn, Sector 34 shall be closed for general public from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.   

Parking Advisory: The general public is hereby requested to park their vehicles in the following authorized parking lots:- 

a. Sabzi Mandi Ground, Sector 34 

b. Shyam Mall Parking, Sector 34 

c. Library Building Parking, Sector 34 

d. Complex Parking, Sector 34             

Dussehra Festival at Dussehra Ground Sector 46, Chandigarh    

Traffic Advisory: In order to de-congest this area at the time of dispersal of this function, the road from Sector 45/46 Light Point towards Sector 46 shall be closed from 5.30 PM to 7.00 PM for general public.

Parking Advisory: The general public is hereby requested to park their vehicles in the following authorized parking lots:- 

a. Parking Market Sector 46 

b. Open ground infront of Rehri Mkt Sector 46-C 

c. Parking adjoining Booth Mkt Sector 46D

Dussehra Advisory for general public of Chandigarh 

General public is appealed to adopt the following measures on the eve of Dussehra:- 

1. Please try to walk to nearby markets, nearby destinations, etc. rather than using a motor vehicle. 

2. Car pooling may be considered. 

3. Please ensure vehicles are efficiently parked in the designated parking lots not consuming more space than necessary. 

4. People are advised not to park their vehicles in ‘No Parking’ Zones/Roads; otherwise, such vehicles shall be towed away/clamped. 

5. People are advised not to park/ply their vehicles on cycle track/pedestrian pathway. 

6. In case vehicle is towed away/clamped, please contact Traffic Helpline No. 1073. 

7. Please remain patient in case of congestion and do not honk unnecessarily.
