Easter 2024: Devotees gather for prayers in churches nationwide

PTC News Desk: Easter, the festival commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, was celebrated with fervor across India as devotees gathered in churches to offer prayers on this holy occasion.

In Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, devotees congregated at the Sacred Hearts Cathedral to partake in Easter Sunday prayers. The atmosphere was filled with reverence as believers commemorated the resurrection of Christ, following the solemn observance of Good Friday. Similarly, in Delhi, Easter prayers were held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral, where the church was adorned with lights, and candles flickered as offerings were made by the faithful. The congregation united in prayer, reflecting on the significance of Easter in Christian theology.


In Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, midnight prayers were conducted at the Velankanni Church, adding a sense of spiritual solemnity to the occasion. The faithful gathered to mark the joyous resurrection of Jesus Christ, a central event in Christian faith. Across the southern state of Kerala, at St. Joseph's Latin Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral Palayam in Thiruvananthapuram, and in the city of Kolkata at St. Teresa's Church, devotees assembled to participate in Easter Sunday prayers, rejoicing in the hope and renewal symbolised by the resurrection.

In the coastal state of Goa, believers offered prayers at Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church in Panaji, while in Mumbai, the faithful congregated at St. Michael's Church, heralding the arrival of Easter Sunday with solemnity and devotion.

While Easter is often associated with symbols like chocolate eggs, lambs, and bunnies, signifying the arrival of spring, it holds profound religious significance for Christians worldwide. According to the Bible, Easter marks the third day after Jesus' crucifixion, signifying his triumph over death and the promise of eternal life.

As believers across India and the world celebrate Easter, it serves as a reminder of the enduring message of hope, redemption, and spiritual renewal that lies at the heart of the Christian faith.
