PTC Web Desk: The third and final Amrit Snan of Maha Kumbh 2025 is underway on the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami. The spiritual fervour at the Sangam is at its peak as ascetics and saints, draped in ash, adorned with swords, maces, and conch shells, arrive with grandeur, chanting ‘Har Har Mahadev’. Some are seen riding horses and chariots, while others beat damrus and blow conch shells, making their way towards the holy confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

The sacred bathing commenced with the Panchayati Niranjani Akhara, followed by the Juna Akhara, one of the largest sects, and the Kinnar Akhara. A total of 13 Akharas will take their ceremonial dip in the sacred waters throughout the day.

The divine gathering has drawn millions of devotees to the Sangam, eager to seek blessings from the revered saints, including the Naga Sadhus. Many devotees are seen touching the feet of the ascetics and applying the dust from their footprints on their foreheads. The grandeur of the event has also attracted visitors from over 20 countries who are witnessing the spectacle of faith and devotion. Adding to the spiritual atmosphere, helicopters have been showering flower petals over the gathering.

Strict crowd control measures in place

The massive footfall has led to strict crowd control measures. All roads leading to the Sangam are packed with devotees for up to 10 km, with people walking 8 to 10 km from Prayagraj Junction to reach the bathing site. In view of massive rush, the famous Bade Hanuman Temple has been temporarily closed. To ensure smooth movement, all routes within the Mela area have been designated as one-way.

To maintain order and security, over 60,000 personnel, including 100 newly deployed IPS officers, have been stationed across the Mela area. Helicopters are being used for aerial surveillance, and 2,750 CCTV cameras have been installed to monitor the crowd. A centralised control room has been set up at the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow, where CM Yogi Adityanath, DGP, Principal Secretary (Home), and senior officials have been monitoring the event since 3 am.

Record-breaking participation

As of 10 am today, an estimated 81.24 lakh devotees had already taken the holy dip. This marks the 22nd day of Maha Kumbh, and since its commencement on January 13, a staggering 34.97 crore people have participated in the ritual bathing. The authorities predict that by the end of the day, the number of pilgrims taking the dip could reach 3 to 4 crore.

DIG (Maha Kumbh) Vaibhav Krishna stated, "The arrangements are excellent, and crowd management is well under control. All Akharas are performing their sacred bath successfully and even ahead of schedule. So far, three Akharas—Mahanirvani, Niranjani, and Juna—have completed their Snan, and others will follow shortly."
