Good news for tourists visiting Manali, Kullu, Leh-Ladakh and Manikaran Sahib: No more 5-hour traffic halt between Mandi, Pandoh Dam
PTC Web Desk: In a welcome development for tourists heading to Himachal Pradesh’s popular destinations such as Manali, Kullu, Leh-Ladakh, and Manikaran Sahib, the Himachal Pradesh administration has announced the suspension of ongoing roadwork between Mandi and Pandoh Dam. This move comes as a major relief for travellers who had previously faced daily traffic halts of up to five hours in this critical stretch due to road-widening and maintenance operations.
The Mandi-Pandoh section has been under repair for several months, with vehicular movement being restricted for five hours daily to facilitate construction. However, the high influx of tourists during the summer holidays and recent shifts in travel patterns have prompted the state authorities to temporarily pause the work to ease traffic congestion.
Notably, this summer, many tourists have opted to travel to Himachal Pradesh instead of Jammu & Kashmir due to the recent terrorist attacks in Pahalgam, which have caused safety concerns. As a result, there has been a significant increase in tourist traffic toward destinations like Manali and Kullu.
To manage this surge efficiently and to ensure a smoother experience for visitors, the Himachal administration has halted construction activities on the Mandi-Pandoh stretch until the end of the holiday season. This strategic decision is aimed at preventing long traffic jams and ensuring tourists do not face undue delays or discomfort during their journey.
Roadwork is expected to resume once the peak travel season concludes. Until then, uninterrupted traffic movement will be maintained between Mandi and Pandoh, allowing easier access to Himachal Pradesh's top tourist hubs.
