Haryana cop murder case: Accused arrested by Delhi Police after being on the run for 28 years
PTC News Desk: In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested a dreaded criminal who had been on the run for almost 28 years after escaping police custody.
He was wanted in connection with the murder of Haryana Police personnel and several other cases including attempt-to-murder cases.
According to police, Rajinder changed his identity in Madhya Pradesh as 'Rajender Singh Yadav' and worked as a Kendriya Vidyalaya teacher, property dealer and contractor to stay away from the radar of law enforcement agencies.
Delhi Police's Crime Branch launched a special operation to trace long-absconding Proclaimed Offenders involved in serious crimes across the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Chander Kumar Singh said the investigation began with two cases registered at Janakpuri police station on June 22, 1997. The cases involved a knife attack during a fight in Uttam Nagar and an attempt-to-murder case against Rajinder, who was declared a Proclaimed Offender by the Rohini Court in 2008.
As the investigation progressed, police found that Rajinder was allegedly involved in several more serious crimes. He was identified as the main suspect in the murder of a serving Haryana Police officer and had also escaped from Uttar Pradesh Police custody in the past.
Police said Rajinder had managed to hide his identity for years by creating a new life using genuine-looking local documents. After gathering intelligence, officers confirmed his identity, tracked his movements and located him.
A Crime Branch team then carried out a raid in Mungaoli, in Madhya Pradesh's Ashok Nagar district, and arrested him. He was produced before a Judicial Magistrate in Mungaoli, where police obtained transit remand to bring him to Delhi and present him before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Dwarka.
During questioning, Rajinder told police that he had been a kabaddi player and had come into contact with criminals while playing the sport.
