PTC Web Desk:  An elderly couple was found brutally murdered inside their residence in Assandh, Haryana, on Monday morning, triggering shock and fear in the locality. The victims were allegedly strangled to death after being restrained, the police said.

The deceased have been identified as Hari Singh (75) and his wife Leela (74), long-time residents of Assandh. The crime came to light around 9.30 am when their grandson arrived at the house and found household articles strewn across the rooms and the bodies lying on the floor.

Senior police officials, including ASP Deepika Aggarwal, DSP Assandh Gorakhpal Rana and local police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving the information. A dog squad and forensic science laboratory (FSL) team were called in to collect evidence from the scene. The bodies were later sent to the civil hospital for post-mortem examination.

According to preliminary findings, the couple’s hands and legs were tied, and adhesive tape was placed over their mouths, suggesting they were restrained before being killed. Police officials stated that the injuries indicate death by strangulation.

Hari Singh had been living in Assandh for nearly four decades and originally hailed from Karsa village. He was engaged in the scrap trade for his livelihood. He is survived by two sons, one residing in the adjoining house, while the other lives elsewhere.

Family members told the police that the couple had no known disputes or enmity with anyone. Though clothes and household items were found scattered, no valuables appeared to be missing, leading investigators to initially rule out robbery as the motive.

Confirming the murder, DSP Gorakhpal Rana said a case has been registered and investigations are underway. “It is a clear case of murder. The victims were tied up and strangled. The exact motive and the number of persons involved will be ascertained after further investigation,” he said.

Police teams, including CIA units, are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning family members and neighbours. Officials said the post-mortem report is expected to provide further clarity in the case.
