Healthcare services across Haryana disrupted as govt doctors go on two-day strike starting today

PTC News Desk: Healthcare services across Haryana have been thrown into complete disruptions as doctors under the Haryana Civil Medical Services Association (HCMSA) have announced a two-day strike starting December 8.

The doctors are protesting to press their demands including a halt to the direct recruitment of Senior Medical Officers (SMOs) and issuance of a notification for the already approved Modified Assured Career Progression (ACP) structure.

To bring the situation under control in Karnal, authorities  deployed consultants, directly recruited specialists and doctors from Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC). However the patient load exceeded the number of doctors deployed. Around 1,500 patients visit the Karnal District Civil Hospital every day.

The central demand of the doctors is the notification and implementation of the revised ACP scheme, which they say was approved by the government earlier in 2024 but has not been officially issued yet.

According to HCMSA, career security for in-service doctors is at risk if direct recruitment continues to supersede promotions. The doctors have argued that direct recruitments of SMO poses a significant risk for ones already in service and that promotions should remain the only pathway to the key post.

Earlier, doctors had announced a two-hour pen down strike on November 27, which turned out futile .
