Heavy rains batter several states: Delhi-NCR faces waterlogging, NH-48 road collapse, IMD warns of more downpours
India Monsoon update: Heavy rainfall continued to affect several parts of the country on Wednesday, disrupting daily life in Delhi-NCR and causing damage in states, including Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the active southwest monsoon will continue to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall across many regions over the next few days.
Rainfall during the last two days left many parts of Delhi, Gurugram and nearby areas waterlogged, leading to slow-moving traffic and long jams on major roads.
One of the biggest disruptions was reported on the Delhi-Jaipur highway (NH-48) near Narsinghpur in Gurugram, where a section of the main carriageway caved in after continuous rain. Two lanes have been closed for safety, affecting traffic heading towards Jaipur.
To reduce congestion, authorities have advised commuters to use alternative routes, including the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) and the Dwarka Expressway. Drivers have also been asked to plan their journeys in advance and travel carefully near the affected stretch.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, Gurugram and Noida, indicating the possibility of moderate rainfall during the day. Ghaziabad has been placed under an orange alert, signalling the likelihood of heavier rainfall. Residents have been advised to stay updated on weather and traffic advisories before stepping out.
TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Special traffic arrangements are in place due to the road sinking at Narsingpur, Gurugram on NH-48.
Traffic movement on the Delhi–Jaipur carriageway is likely to remain affected.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon remains active and is expected to bring widespread rainfall across several regions.
On July 8, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, with isolated places expected to receive extremely heavy rain.
Other states that may witness heavy rainfall include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, East Rajasthan, Gujarat, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
The Centre said the country's overall rainfall deficit has reduced to 12 per cent after above-normal rainfall during the first week of July.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, PK Mishra, reviewed the progress of the ongoing kharif season and preparedness for any possible impact of El Niño on agriculture and other sectors.
Officials also said that an El Niño year does not automatically mean India will receive below-normal rainfall.

Heavy rain continued to create problems in Maharashtra. In Palghar district, at least 10 persons have lost their lives since July 1, including three deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
In another tragic incident, three teenagers drowned in a water-filled quarry near Amalner in Jalgaon district after one of them reportedly slipped while trying to take a selfie.
Meanwhile, Mumbai's civic body has decided to conduct a scientific study to understand why trees fall during the monsoon and whether road concretisation weakens tree roots. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will also begin annual inspection and mapping of manholes from January to improve monsoon preparedness.
Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall disrupted road connectivity in Rampur subdivision of Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district.
A temporary bridge over the Ganvi Khad stream was damaged due to rising water levels, cutting off road links to the Kyao and Kut panchayats and creating difficulties for local residents.
A cloudburst in Doda district of Jammu & Kashmir caused mud, rocks and debris to flow into residential and commercial areas, damaging several buildings and vehicles.
Local residents have demanded stronger flood protection measures and action against unauthorised construction, claiming repeated warnings about the area's vulnerability had been ignored.
With the IMD forecasting more rainfall over the coming days, authorities have urged people to avoid flooded areas, follow traffic advisories and remain cautious while travelling. Emergency teams in several states are on alert as heavy rain is expected to continue in many parts of the country.
