Hemkund Sahib Yatra: Pilgrimage temporarily suspended for two days amid heavy rain, snow in Uttarakhand
PTC Web Desk: With heavy rain in lower reaches and snowfall in upper reaches of Uttarakhand, the state government and the Gurdwara Shri Hemkund Sahib Management Trust has issued advisory to pilgrims.
The Uttarakhand Government said the yatra had been temporarily suspended for the next two days — May 24 and May 25 — amid heavy rain and snowfall. The portals of Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib opened on May 20.
Although rain has brought much-needed respite from the scorching heat, thunderstorm has created havoc in parts of Uttarakhand, leaving four persons dead.
As per information, a powerful thunderstorm accompanied by rain hit various parts of Uttarakhand. As per the weather department, the weather is likely to improve from May 27 onwards.
Due to heavy snow on the yatra route, devotees above 60 years of age and children are not allowed to travel this time. Only 2,500 pilgrims will be allowed to visit Gurdwara Hemkund Sahib in a day.
