IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Diu aborts takeoff after engine catches fire; all 60 passengers safe
PTC Web Desk: An IndiGo flight scheduled to operate from Ahmedabad to Diu on July 23 was forced to abort takeoff after one of its engines caught fire during the takeoff roll. The flight, numbered 6E 7966, was carrying 60 passengers on board when the incident occurred at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.
According to a report, the pilot of the ATR 72-600 aircraft declared a “Mayday” emergency and promptly alerted the air traffic control (ATC). Following standard operating procedures, the pilots safely returned the aircraft to the parking bay, and all passengers were evacuated without injury.
An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed the incident, stating, “A technical snag indication was noticed just before take-off on IndiGo flight 6E 7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu. The pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to the bay. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before it is cleared for further operations.”
The flight was scheduled to depart at 11 am. IndiGo has assured that affected passengers are being assisted and given options, including refreshments, rebooking on the next available flight, or a full refund as per their preference. “We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and are making all efforts to minimise it,” the airline added.
This incident follows another technical issue earlier this week, when an IndiGo flight from Goa to Indore faced a snag just before landing. That flight landed safely, and the aircraft has been sent for a thorough technical inspection.
