Kanpur shocker: Woman plots father-in-law's murder over constant restrictions, CCTV surveillance

PTC News Desk: Constant CCTV surveillance, restrictions on late-night parties and having to ask for money even for small expenses allegedly caused serious tensions within a wealthy family in Uttar Pradesh.

Investigators believe these disputes may have led to a murder plot in which 63-year-old pharmaceutical businessman Vineet Minocha was allegedly stabbed 26 times inside his apartment in Kanpur on Saturday night.

Daughter-in-Law accused of planning murder

Police suspect Minocha’s 36-year-old daughter-in-law, Shalu, of hiring Vishal, 30, a former domestic worker, to kill her father-in-law.

Vishal allegedly told investigators that Shalu had offered him money to carry out the murder. Following his statement, Shalu was taken into custody. Investigators said she initially attempted to mislead them but later admitted her involvement during questioning.

Vishal and his associate Raj Kishore were arrested late Sunday night following an encounter.

Disputes over money

According to investigators, Shalu said her father-in-law closely monitored the family through CCTV cameras. She allegedly claimed that he objected to her attending late-night parties and returning home late.

She also reportedly told investigators that despite belonging to a wealthy family, she had little control over household finances. She allegedly had to ask her father-in-law for money even for small personal expenses involving herself and her husband.

Investigators found that Shalu had returned home late from a party on July 28, which led to a heated argument with Minocha. Police believe the dispute further strained their relationship.

Rs 6 lakh murder deal alleged

Investigators allege that Shalu later contacted Vishal and offered him Rs 6 lakh to kill Minocha. According to the investigation, Rs 2 lakh was to be paid on September 6, while the remaining Rs 4 lakh was allegedly promised 15 days later.

Shalu allegedly arranged a duplicate key to the apartment and gave it to Vishal. On September 4, during Janmashtami, she reportedly called him to the house on the pretext of handing over some items and finalised the plan.

On Saturday night, Shalu reportedly left for a party with her husband Subrat and their child.

A few minutes later, Vishal and Raj Kishore allegedly reached the apartment. Security guard Madan stopped them, but Vishal reportedly called Shalu and connected her with the guard.

She allegedly told Madan that the two men had come to deliver medicines and asked him to let them enter.

Murder plot went wrong

According to investigators, the original plan was to suffocate Minocha with a pillow and make the death appear to be a heart attack.

The two men reportedly hid inside the son's bedroom. When Minocha entered the room, they allegedly attacked him with knives.

He suffered 26 stab wounds before the accused fled the apartment.
