PTC News Desk: A new political spat has arisen in the Kolkata doctor's r@pe and murder case, with left-wing parties and the Bharatiya Janata Party accusing officials at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital of attempting to tamper with evidence relating to the crime.

The CPI(M)-affiliated Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and Students' Federation of India (SFI) noted that renovation work had begun near the seminar room where the doctor's body was found. They gathered outside the hospital's Emergency Building entrance to protest, claiming that the authorities were trying to destroy evidence while shielding the real perpetrators.

A doctor from the Left-affiliated Joint Forum of Doctors claimed that the postmortem results suggested the victim had been r@ped by multiple individuals.

According to The Indian Express, doctor Subarna Goswami, who was with the victim's family when they saw the postmortem report, stated that the girl was gangr@ped.

The victim's parents in their petition to Calcutta High Court also voiced their suspicion that it is a case of gang r@pe".

"The petitioners have narrated the state in which the body of their daughter was found when they were permitted to see and they would state that there were bleeding injuries over the body and there were no cloth on the lower part of the body. The parents suspect that more than one individual were the offenders and their suspicion is that it is a case of gang rape", the High Court said.

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya took to X and stated that RG Kar Medical College authorities broke down room walls inside the Chest Medicine Dept, where the on-duty junior doctor was subjected to brutal rape and murder, destroying what could have been crucial circumstantial evidence that could have led the CBI investigation team to the murderers.

"While West Bengal is seething with anger, given Mamata Banerjee's apathy and Kolkata Police’s botched cover-up attempt, RG Kar Medical College authorities break down room walls, inside the Chest Medicine Dept, where the on-duty junior doctor was subjected to brutal rape and murder, destroying what could be crucial circumstantial evidence, which could have led the CBI investigating team to the murderers," the BJP leader posted.

"Area marked as Resident Doctor's Area and Toilet (Female) inside the Chest Medicine Dept also being broken down in the name of renovation. This leaves no one in doubt that Mamata Banerjee was all along eliminating evidence and covering crime trail to protect those involved in the heinous crime, who, it is speculated, happen to be family members of influential TMC leaders," he added.

Meanwhile, the hospital administration stated that the work took place outside of the seminar room. “The renovation, being carried out by PWD, is for creating more amenities for PGTs and junior doctors as demanded by them. This should not be seen as an attempt to tamper with evidence. The seminar hall where the crime took place is sealed,” the administrator added.

However, because the renovation is taking place so close to the seminar hall, suspicions have been raised about the reason. Many people have questioned the timing of the renovation.

"We were surprised to learn that the adjoining areas of the crime scene are being dismantled for renovation. The CBI has still to collect evidence, and the probe is far from over. Our concerns about the administration's ulterior motive and mala fide intent to tamper with evidence have almost been confirmed," said doctors Punyabrata Gun and Hiralal Konar, convenors of the Joint Platform of Doctors West Bengal.
