Lawrence Bishnoi's cousin discloses family spends up to Rs 40 lakh annually on jailed gangster
PTC News Desk: The family of Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious gangster currently incarcerated, reportedly spends around Rs 35 to Rs 40 lakh each year to support him while he is in jail, according to a revelation by his cousin, Ramesh Bishnoi.
Ramesh Bishnoi, 50, shared insights into the family's financial commitments and their surprising trajectory regarding Lawrence’s criminal activities. He expressed disbelief that Lawrence, a 31-year-old law graduate from Panjab University, would eventually become embroiled in crime. “We have always been wealthy.
Lawrence's father was a constable in the Haryana Police and owns 110 acres of land in our village. Lawrence always wore expensive clothes and shoes. In fact, even now, the family spends Rs 35-40 lakh annually on him in jail,” Ramesh told The Indian Express.
Lawrence Bishnoi, born Balkaran Brar in Firozpur, Punjab, adopted his notorious moniker during his school years. According to family lore, his aunt suggested the name "Lawrence" because it had a more appealing ring to it.
In recent years, Bishnoi has been linked to numerous high-profile criminal cases, including the recent assassination of Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique in Mumbai. Siddique, a close associate of Bollywood actor Salman Khan, was reportedly targeted due to his friendship with the actor, which is believed to have influenced the circumstances of his murder.
Earlier this week, Canadian police accused members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang of engaging in "violent" activities on Canadian soil in collaboration with alleged Indian government agents—a claim that India has firmly denied. Additionally, the Bishnoi gang was implicated in the tragic killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022.
Lawrence Bishnoi is currently housed in Sabarmati Central Jail, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He is under investigation by the state's Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with multiple cases.
In August 2023, the Union Home Ministry issued a directive preventing Bishnoi from being transferred out of Sabarmati Jail for any purpose. This order was extended for another year, reflecting the seriousness of the investigations surrounding him and his criminal activities.
As the situation unfolds, the financial and legal implications of the Bishnoi family's support for Lawrence remain a topic of significant interest amid rising concerns over his criminal associations and ongoing investigations.
