Madrasa horror: 5 minor students arrested for killing 12-year-old boy in Odisha's Nayagarh
PTC News Desk: Five minor students of a madrasa were arrested for allegedly killing a 12-year-old boy and dumping his body into a septic tank, an officer said on Sunday.
The incident unfolded on September 2 at a madrasa located within the jurisdiction of Ranpur police station limits of Nayagarh district.
Nayagarh Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Subhas Chandra Panda said that a case was registered on September 3, and the five accused boys, aged between 12 and 15 years, were taken into custody on Saturday.
According to the initial probe, the victim, a resident of Badamba in Cuttack district, had reportedly warned senior students that he would expose their sexual abuse of juniors. Police said he himself had been subjected to abuse by a senior inmate for the past six months, and there had even been an earlier attempt on his life on August 31.
Panda said that initially the case appeared to be a case of accident after the body of the victim was recovered from the septic tank, later evidence established that he was tortured and killed.
"It was learnt that the victim was sodomised by two senior boys, including the 15-year-old senior inmate of the madrasa, before being killed and his body dumped into the septic tank," the ASP said.
The boy was strangled to death by the prime accused and his four associates. "All five were taken into custody and produced in a court," the ASP said, adding that a case was registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), murder charge and POCSO Act.
