MEA rules out link between tragic events involving Indian nationals in US
MEA on student deaths: In addressing the recent unfortunate deaths of five Indian students in the United States, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has underlined that there is "no foul play or interconnectedness" in the incidents. During a weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided details surrounding the death of two Indian nationals and three persons of Indian origin who held US nationality.
Randhir Jaiswal clarified that out of the five deaths, two individuals were Indian nationals, while the remaining three were of Indian origin but US nationals. One case involved the brutal killing of Vivek Saini, who was attacked with a hammer by a homeless man in Lithonia, Georgia, on January 29. The culprit has been arrested, and the local authorities are actively investigating the matter.
In another case at the University of Cincinnati, the preliminary report suggests no foul play, although the medical report is awaited. Jaiswal reiterated the lack of interconnectedness among the incidents and emphasised the MEA's active engagement with the local authorities, consulates, and missions to provide support to the affected families.

For the Indian nationals involved, the MEA is in contact with the local authorities, consulates, and missions. The spokesperson emphasised their commitment to assisting Indian nationals abroad and highlighted ongoing efforts to coordinate with local authorities for the well-being of those affected.
Addressing concerns about the recent attack on Hyderabad resident Mazir Ali in Chicago, Jaiswal stated that the Indian consulate in Chicago is closely in touch with him and his family. Ali, a student, was attacked by four robbers, prompting efforts to expedite an emergency visa for his wife. The MEA is actively working to provide medical aid and support to Ali, who is now under the care of local authorities.
As investigations continue, the MEA reiterated its commitment to assisting Indian nationals abroad and emphasised its ongoing efforts to coordinate with local authorities for the well-being of affected individuals. The ministry appealed for understanding that each case is independent, and there is no evidence of interconnectedness among the tragic events involving Indian students and individuals of Indian origin in the United States.
While updates on these incidents will be provided in due course, the MEA urged caution in recognising that each case is distinct, and there is no evidence of a link between the tragic events involving Indian nationals in the United States.
